Unemployment is a lot of work

I have gone from being full time student to full time unemployed. Although the word "unemployed" for some is synonymous with binge watching Netflix and bonding a little too much with your sofa, I find unemployment to be quite a lot of work. I generally regard my out-of-work-situation as a full time job.
But how do I keep busy? Here's some of the work I do while being unemployment.

  • LinkedIn - I'm currently improving my LinkedIn profile, which I haven't payed much attention to when I was a student. At the moment I am still updating. I try to edit a little bit every week.
  • Courses - All courses in my local area that relates to writing job application, going to job interviews etc. always has my attentention and I attend them as often as I can (and try get others attend them too).
  • Writing job applications - Like my LinkedIn profile I try to improve my applications by editing them a little every week to make them better
  • Finding out my skills - This one is hard and I need a good friend as an informal coach. I try to find out which skills I learned through different jobs.
  • Podcasts - At the moment I try to listen to podcasts on career and job application. Whether you're unemployed or not these podcasts from Career Tools are brilliant.
  • Networking - I'm a very social person and try to talk to as many people as I can in order to get a good network started.
